Funds to Support Nonprofit Human Service Organizations Aiding Families, Children in Need
July 30, 2014 -- GLENCOE, IL - The Board of the North Shore Exchange announces plans to distribute $150,000 of proceeds from the profits of its successful resale operation after its first full fiscal year, doubling the amount of grants it distributed last year.
"We are incredibly grateful to our supporters who have continued to make the North Shore Exchange a thriving resale shop with significant profits to support our mission of providing funding to organizations that provide human services and education to children and families at or below the poverty level," said Wendy Serrino, president of the North Shore Exchange board.
As a philanthropic arm of the Woman's Library Club of Glencoe, the North Shore Exchange will distribute one third of this money to local agency Family Service of Glencoe while the remaining two thirds of grants will support nonprofit organizations throughout the Midwest. Last year's recipients in the categories of homelessness, elderly, disabilities and hunger included: La Casa Norte, The Night Ministry, Family Promise, Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association, Home Opportunities Maintenance for the Elderly (H.O.M.E.), Greater Chicago Food Depository and the Midwest Food Bank.
"We are thrilled to announce that we have invited approximately 25 nonprofit organizations in the human service arena to submit grant applications for our consideration," said Scott Javore, chair of the philanthropy committee for the North Shore Exchange. "A lot of thought and consideration will go into selecting groups to honor whose causes best align with our philanthropic mission of improving the lives of children and families with the greatest need."
The board will distribute the grant funds to the honored recipients at an event scheduled at the shop in late October.
"Hearing firsthand from our recipients about the incredible work that is made possible through the funds they've received from the North Shore Exchange is incredibly moving," said Serrino. "We truly are making a difference in our community and beyond."
